Thank You, Petco!

PetcoCat Ladies Society would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Petco for inviting us to participate in the Grand Opening of their new Boardman location. We were camped out there all weekend, and as a result, we doubled our adoptions!

It was an amazing weekend. Many of our past adopters stopped out with adoption stories… and some brought their cats and kittens for free photos, courtesy of Petco, or just to shop. It was wonderful seeing everyone again. We also made many new friends, some of which took home a cat or kitten of their very own. Best of all, four of our adoptions this weekend were special needs cats and kittens!

We hope you’ll be able to join us in two weeks for another Petco Adoption Event, Saturday February 20 and Sunday February 21. We’ll have all new cats and kittens just waiting to go home with you. In the meantime, visit us at the shelter where dozens of cats and kittens are searching for their forever homes every single day.

Sheeba C11157

Sheeba11157Birthdate: 2/2/06

Gender: Female, spayed

Color: Tortie Point Birman

Special Needs: Frostbitten ears, missing teeth

Sheeba has been adopted. Congratulations, Sheeba!

It’s hard to believe that a cat this beautiful has had such a hard life. If she could speak, we’re sure she would have quite the story to tell. For now, we can only guess at what this gorgeous grl has been through.

Sheeba was abandoned at Animal Charity about a month ago. The tips of her ears have dropped off due to frostbite. It seems like an old injury, and believe it or not, it looks like Sheeba had been outside for quite a while before finally ending up at the shelter. Many of her teeth are missing, which points to a difficult life trying to fend for herself without anyone to care about her.

She stayed at Animal Charity for a few weeks where the staff fawned over and pampered her, but all too soon, her time was up and no amount of fondness for this great cat was going to save her from being euthanized until Cat Ladies Society stepped in. We agreed to take her and give her the chance she deserves at finding an amazing home.

Despite all of this… or maybe because of it… Sheeba has a very gentle personality. When you call her over, she eagerly stretches for petting and head buts your hand for more. She has a tiny little meow when she talks to you that goes perfectly with her baby doll face.

How Do We Keep the Kittens Entertained?

Check out those high jumps! That first twisting leap is Mystique, who is looking for a home. It’s her birthday this month, so her adoption fee is only $10!

That orange kitten with the blue collar who’s stealing the show is none other than Duke! He’s available for adoption right now at the shelter.

Think adults can’t pull off a stunt like that? Don’t miss Ziggy’s backflip at the end!

Cantaloupe C11146

Cantaloupe11146Birthdate: 1/27/07

Gender: Male, neutered

Color: Orange bengal mix shorthair

Cantaloupe is a very large cat with an itty bitty meow, and you’ll notice him the moment you walk into the Adult Room because he’ll be the one racing forward to get belly rubs. He was rescued from a high kill shelter only a week ago, and we immediately fell in love with him. He wasted no time in realizing there was petting to be had, and he wanted his fair share.

January Adoption Stats

CLSLogoAs always, thank you so much to all of the wonderful people who have opened their hearts and homes to one… or more… of our cats and kittens this month. With your help, Cat Ladies Society rescued 63 cats in January!

For 2010, we’re dedicated to making an even bigger impact on the lives of cats and kittens in our community, and we want to keep you informed about the progress we’re making. Be sure to check this site at the end of every month for updated stats on our rescues.

JANUARY RESCUES

2 – Kittens brought to CLS from the Mill Creek Police Department
2 – Litters came in through the Wean & Return program
33 – Cats and Kittens were pulled from high-kill shelters

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Adopt – CLS has a huge selection of cats and kittens to choose from. When you adopt, you are helping us keep space available for new rescues coming in daily. All of our cats come with our amazing healthcare package, which means the only thing you have to worry about is loving them.
  • Volunteer – Every day, Cat Ladies Society’s staff of volunteers helps to care for the cats here at the shelter, waiting for homes. We need your help! Visit the shelter during adoption hours to get started. There is no schedule to commit to or minimum number of hours. Whenever you’re available and we’re open, all you need to do is drop by.
  • Foster – Kitten season is right around the corner. That means the calls from high-kill shelters will soon begin, asking for our help to prevent these highly adoptable babies from beng euthanized. We need fosters for the tiniest of the tinies. Most of our kittens entering foster care are 4–6 weeks old, and our fosters only need to care for them for a couple of weeks until they’re large enough to enter the shelter. Cat Ladies Society provides ALL healthcare, food, litter and supplies. All you need to supply is plenty of socialization and love and a safe place for these kittens to stay until they can be spayed/neutered. Visit the shelter to get started today.
  • Donate – Monetary donations are always greatly appreciated, but that’s not the only way you can donate. Check out our Wishlist at http://www.catladiessociety.com/Forms/DonationWishList.pdf for dozens of items we desperately need, most of which you can find lying around the house!

Gambit C10451

Gambit10451Birthdate: 2/28/09

Gender: Male, neutered

Color: Bengal/Brown Tabby mix shorthair

BIRTHDAY ALERT!

Gambit’s very 1st birthday is right around the corner, and it would be a shame for this great kitten to find himself still in the shelter for his birthday. During the month of February, Gambit’s adoption fee is reduced to only $10. Make his birthday a happy one, and take him home with you!

Gambit is a non-stop ball of energy, bouncing from one toy to the next, constantly playing. He loves jingle balls and scaling the huge cat trees in the Kitten Room.

Gambit is part of an interesting litter of kittens who were born at Schaefer Equipment in Warren. Their mother was abandoned at the industrial plant a few years ago. Eventually, one of the employees let her inside where she took up residence among the machinery. She continued to go outside regularly though, and before long, she became pregnant.

Over the course of a few years, she had litter after litter. The employees never considered it to be a problem because “we always found someone to take them,”….. until the one time they didn’t. The kitten who didn’t find a home? A female. She took after Mom, and soon found herself pregnant.

Faced now with two nursing mothers and 10 kittens between them, one employee finally said, “Enough is enough,” and called Cat Ladies Society for help. All of the kittens and moms were enrolled in our Wean & Return program to stop this endless cycle of kittens.

She’s usually one of the first kittens people notice when they walk by the Kitten Room window. You have to see her in person.

Cotton C10908

Cotton10908Birthdate: 10/30/08

Gender: Female, spayed

Color: Pure white longhair with two-toned eyes

Cotton has been adopted. Congratulations, Cotton!

Looking at Cotton’s long silky fur now, you’d never recognize a photo of her when she first arrived at Cat Ladies Society in late October. She had been found wandering the streets of Wooster, Ohio. How long she was out there is anyone’s guess. She was so covered in fleas that their repeated bites cause almost all of her fur to fall out, leaving her nearly bare.

Wayne County Humane Society in Wooster kept her for a couple of weeks, but they weren’t able to find anyone willing to take a chance on this little ugly duckling. They kept her as long as they could, but then the order came down that she was “upadoptable” and she was marked for euthanasia.

Luckily, Cat Ladies Society happened to be visiting WCHS that day. When we saw Cotton, we didn’t see the scraggly cat covered in flea bites and very litte else. We saw a gorgeous, plush cat who would turn the head of anyone visiting her new family’s home… if only she was given a chance to make that vision a reality.

Later that day, she was treated to kill the fleas and sent off to her new foster home here. They took home a cat that only a true cat lover could admire. Two months later, what they brought back is the stunning beauty you see here today.

She loved the kids at her foster home and got along just fine with their other cats. They were tempted to change her name to Shadow, despite her white fur, because everywhere they went… she was there too, weaving around their legs, right on their heels. She had to explore and investigate anything and everything. But her absolute favorite thing? Herself! This is one vain little girl. Her foster mom says her favorite activity is sitting in front of a mirror or a turned-off TV and staring at her own gorgeous reflection.

Really…. how could you possible pass this cat by?

News from Precious… aka Yoshi!

Precious11068A few weeks ago, Precious found his forever home. His new family emailed today:

“Hi there!

I just wanted to give you an update on Precious, who I have re-named Yoshi! =)  He is doing very well and is the perfect addition to our home!!  Yoshi loves to snuggle.  It is not uncommon for him to climb up your body and nestle himself right on your chest.  I have purchased him about 5,000 toys, all of which he has actively batted under every piece of furniture in our house, haha!  I can’t thank you enough for finding this little treasure!  We love him very much!

Sincerely,
Courtney”
