Sunshine has been adopted. Congratulations, Sunshine!
In a word, Sunshine is simply stunning. She has beautiful long, soft fur and enjoys posing for the camera.
She came to Cat Ladies Society mid-April. Several months before, Columbiana County Humane Society received a humane call about a cat that had been tossed out into the woods after her former owners decided to move out of their apartment and couldn’t be bothered to take her with them or to find her a new home.
When the humane agent responded, she was unable to find Sunshine, so Sunshine remained out in the woods. Several months later, CCHS received another call about the same cat, only this time, the news was much, much worse. She had never been spayed and was pregnant when she was attacked by a stray dog. She had managed to fight him off but sustained a large, deep bite wound that sent her into premature labor.
Again, humane agents responded and this time managed to catch her now that she had three little ones. All of them were packed up and taken to Columbiana County Humane Society, but the decision there was that they didn’t have the resources available to care for a severe injury as well as vulnerable, premature kittens. That’s when they contacted Cat Ladies Society for help.
We took Sunshine and the kittens in and began immediately treating the bite wound, which thankfully responded quickly to antibiotics and daily flushing. Through all of this, Sunshine was wonderful. She laid down for her treatment each day and never even hissed. she was also an amazing mom. She continued nursing and cleaning her kittens even when they tried to nurse near her wounds. She tried so hard to save them.
After a few weeks, it became very apparent that the kittens were not going to survive. At a month old, they were still the size of newborns, even with constant nursing. Due to being premature, their immune systems were too weak, and they had cold after cold. Sunshine kept them clean and fed, but nothing she did worked and one by one…. her kittens passed away.
Now, Sunshine has been spayed and is ready for her new home. She is a little skittish because of her history. She takes time to warm up to new people and to trust, but if you’re patient with her, your patience will be rewarded.
Due to Sunshine’s history, she is available for Indoors, Indoor/Outdoor and Outdoors Only to approved homes.
